A few supporting facts & figures:
5.31 laks students passed the IBPS Clerk Exam – 2011.
Approximately 5.31 lakh students have been declared as successful in the first Common Written Exam for Clerks held in November 2011. Forty four lakh (precisely 43,14,315) students have registered for the exam, out of which 30.54 lakh students have appeared for the exam.Nearly 1.93 lakh women candidates were among the successful candidates.
In the next five years, commercial banks will have to recruit almost 7.5 lakh people.
Last year, 13 million candidates registered for exams conducted by IBPS. Of this, 8 million appeared in the exams. And this was for about 70,000 vacancies advertised by various Central Government organisations, banks and some insurance companies. About 48,000 of these jobs were for public sector banks alone.
In the next five years, commercial banks will have to recruit almost 7.5 lakh people. That means in five years' time, more than 60 per cent of the staff working in banks will be new and only 40 per cent will be experienced.
How many vacancies are expected to be filled this year?
Last year 48,000 posts were filled, of which approximately 15,000 were officers & the rest was for clerical grade. Although the numbers depend on each bank, the same trend is expected to continue this year also. In fact, considering the retirements, opening of new branches & need to increase workforce in present branches – the number of positions are only going to increase with each year.
In addition to these 19 public sector banks, many private banks have expressed interest in using the IBPS CWE scores for their recruitments. Hence the scope of banks & other organizations using these scorecards are significant.
